This little guitar is really fun.
I'm definitly not an "Martin Guy" though In my opinion,
Martin has surpassed the competition with this guitar.
Signature model or not, the price-performance ratio of the Martin 000-Jr10E Shaw Mendes
really stands out thanks to its solid construction, FSC certification and gig bag.
And if you're not too stubborn ;-) and can live with the small signature on the third fret
and on the gig bag, you should definitely try this model out.
The search is over.
Finally there is a usable, relatively necessary, all-solid small size guitar
with 14 Freds and standard 45 mm neck width and neck profile.
(Taylor GS Mini 43mm, Taylor Grand Theater 44mm, Guild Jumbo Junior 43mm, Eastmann ACTG2E 43mm etc.)
All finger pickers can be happy.
It doesn't really sound boxy and it sounds bigger than it actually is.
It can also keep up well with its bigger sister (my 000-18) when it comes to strumming.
This is certainly due to the traditional design with bracing on the back.
This provides stability and therefore the tones produced do not overdrive so quickly
(Taylor GS Mini - no bracing!) and enable a more stable and complex sound behavior.
It has the typical Martin sound, responds easily and sounds (not least because of its size)
still very balanced.
What is striking is that the guitar is constructed to be extremely well balanced despite its size
(Weight of 1.7 kg corresponds exactly to that of a 000-18).
It is in no way “neck heavy” and therefore brings pure playing joy even when standing
The guitar's string position is set very well at the factory.
A fact that rarely or does not occur at all with Martin (in contrast to Taylor) guitars.
Thumbs up for that!
What I don't like is the mediocre Fischersmann Sonitone pickup and the
good but not particularly precise mechanics.
I am sure that the sound of the Shaw Mendes Limited Edition will improve
significantly by choosing the right strings ;-) and an appropriate break-in period.
A purchase recommendation from me.
Best before it is “discontinued” again ;-)
