I have played guitar for years, earlier in the band and nowadays just for my self in my living room. I have owned quite many different type of guitars in my past and now I bought this J&D Mini to be my only guitar.
My first impression was that it is very beautiful and solid instrument. Even though the body is small, it is still normal size guitar with 25,5 inch scale. The neck also feels "normal". Maybe it is slightly thicker than in my previous guitars, but it feels very good to play.
It fits very comfortably on my lap and my posture feels natural when I'm playing (I'm 181cm).
The finishing is basicly good, but you can see it is a cheap guitar. There is minor defects in finishing, mainly on the edges of f-holes and on the wooden tailpiece, but they are removable with sandpaper etc.
The fingerboard is beautiful, but the frets need polishing and adjusting by professional person. That's not a problem to me, with new cheap guitars I'm always prepared to do that.
The upper piece of the bridge have very sharp edges and feels bad on my hand. It would be easily reparable with sandpaper, but I'm going to replace it anyway with adjustable metal roller bridge (Schaller).
The sound is very good and I'm not going to replace the pickups.
In overall I'm very happy with this guitar, with little extra money and effort it will be perfect guitar for me.
Basically very pleasantly surprised.
Leaving aside all the the standard setup stuff you have to assume will be necessary, this is a really nice guitar.
Being disabled, I spend a lot of time sitting, and was looking for something lightweight and compact for when I'm sitting at the computer.
Fit and Finish all excellent. Acoustic sound nothing to write home about, but adequate for practice. Hardware functional and everything works. Grover Tuners (?) D'addario strings.
Sizewise, it's similar to a Les Paul. Overall length 39", Lower Bout 13" or so. Comfortable size and shape. Interesting design and is a full 25.5" scale.
For a floating, carved wooden bridge, the intonation was about as close as you'll get.
All in all, very happy. For £169 delivered well worth considering if you need something compact and like hollowbodys
I'm a professional jazz guitarist in New York. I have been searching for small full hollow body guitars for travel and to make commuting in the city easier. I had played some vintage small archtops, and did not want to risk damage on flights or theft in the city. This guitar sounds and feels big. It's a great buy, you can't go wrong. My only complaint is the bridge height adjustment screws are drilled into the body and was set in the wrong place. You have to unscrew them a little before trying to move the bridge, beware so you don't crack the top trying to move it without unscrewing. Once unscrewed you can set it in the correct place and you can't see the holes under the bridge. Please stop drilling into the top for a floating archtop bridge. Thanks, it's a great guitar!
I bought this guitar now for about 8 months. At first, I was happy about it, because I had no idea about guitars. Later on, I realized it's a defective guitar. Body shield was dropping all the time. Tune was off very often. In the 14th fret, 1st string was not working correctly. Tried fixing the bridge, but later I had to choose from all front frets not working or just one area. But still, the problem was not solved. Given it to a music repair shop, not even they were able to solve the problem. When I got this guitar, it came with body and neck paint defects, glue leftovers, but with a low price, it wasn't a big deal for me.
It could be just my guitar had fret problems, there are risks in buying guitars online. MusicStore won't check the product if it's bad or good.
