With the Sigma DM12-SG 5, the manufacturer founded in 1970 is now also launching a 12-string version of the classic "Hummingbird" acoustic guitar. The model's characteristic hummingbird pickguard, vintage cherry sunburst finish and authentic flag inlays in the fingerboard are particularly successful. Its short scale length and materials are also amazingly close to the original. A gig bag is also included for safe transportation.
Like the original, the guitar is equipped with a solid Sit ka spruce top, which gives the sound a very powerful and clear colouration. This finely-grained wood allows the chorus effect typical of 12-string guitars to emerge very clearly and gives the guitar a very direct and loud response. The tortoise pickguard with hummingbird, butterfly and flower decorations is just one of the highlights of the top, which is also particularly successful in terms of colour.
The laminated mahogany body gives the instrument a particularly warm and mid-range sound that harmonizes perfectly with the assertive spruce top. Due to its lightweight construction, the body gives the instrument the necessary powerful bass to compensate for the relatively thin strings. This makes the guitar perfect for strumming parts and lead accompaniment.
The entire construction is reinforced by a solid mahogany neck with Micarta fingerboard, which in combination with the short 628 mm scale length is very easy to play. A 47.6 mm wide nut made of bone material and a corresponding saddle allow consistent intonation right up to the high frets. The chrome-plated die-cast tuners and the flag inlays clearly show that the manufacturer has not skimped on the details. In addition, the Sigma DM12-SG 5 is equipped with a Fishman Sonitone pickup system.
Stunning looking 12 string with a great warm tone. A wider neck but that suits finger picking. Action was a little high out the box for me, but easy to adjust. The neck is set perfectly and remains clean and buzz free - even with my demanding low action preferences. A pleasure to play.
