Zoom H1n-VP
The Zoom H1n (Black) is a professional mobile recording device that captures 24-bit audio at sampling rates of up to 44.1, 48, or 96kHz in WAV and various MP3 formats. An on-board Limiter ensures a distortion-free signal up to 120dB SPL, whilst a Low-Cut Filter goes a long way towards elimination of unwanted rumble, clicks and pops. One of the H1n’s rarer features is its ability to overdub layers of audio, giving far richer sounding captures. The Playback Speed Control allows for the transcription of music and dialogue without changing the pitch of the audio. There are also plenty of engineer quality of life improvements such as Auto-Record, Pre-Record and Self-Time, making sessions as painless as possible, and with the Tone Generator calibrating the H1n and a camera becomes a simple task. At the head of the device the inbuilt X/Y microphones mean you are always able to record, but a Mic/Line input is provided in order to use your favourite microphones or other sound sources. The Stereo Mix can be sent from the H1n using the USB digital output and this also allows for the H1n to act as a USB microphone and a microSD card reader.

I needed a low cost field recorder to use for motorvlogging and DV247 fulfilled that requirement. The selection of products they hold is very impressive and I had my order placed without any problems. The Zoom H1N arrived a few days later, well packaged and in pristine condition.
Once powered up I realised that this was going to be a gamechanger. The audio quality from this little recorder is simply Amazing! The clarity and depth of the audio is so much better than anything I could record in camera.

I was surprised how small this recorder is when you get it out of the box, but it is perfectly formed.
The sound quality is great and the controls and settings are very easy to manage.
Make sure to buy a micro SD card that is 32 gig or under (which I didn't) or the recorder won't be able to format it.
You have to be careful with handling noise, because the case is very sensitive, but that is a minor issue.
A great recorder to just carry around all the time, in case something happens.

If you've used an H1 before, you'll appreciate the new built in Limiter - the simplicity of the big red record button has gone, but by the same token all the controls are now easier to access. Same high quality recordings at the H1 or H4. Get a cheap foam mic windshield (45mm internal) for close vocal work or a "dead cat" style ebay special for wind reduction and you're good to go!
