With the A-117-2 module, Doepfer offers a digital, voltage-controlled noise generator.
The module generates a random sequence of square-wave signals, the frequency of which can be adjusted from occasional "clicks" to noise. The noise color is clearly different from that of analog noise. In the lower frequency ranges, the A-117-2 produces atonal, noisy sounds that are reminiscent of bitcrush and are particularly convincing in experimental patches.
If you play the module with a sequencer and send the digital noise directly into a VCA that is modulated with an envelope, the techno/industrial faction will also be happy. The frequency of the internal clock oscillator is manually adjustable in the range from 50Hz to 40kHz and can also be controlled via a CV input with its own attenuator. The internal clock can be replaced by an external one, e.g. an oscillator, high-speed VCO, LFO or a
