The ESP LTD KH-DC combines classical design elements with unimpeded playability, which is expected from a modern metal guitar. The double-cut design of the mahogany body guarantees unobstructed access to every position on the glued-on mahogany neck, whose fast "Thin U" profile is made for breathtaking high-speed and driving riffs. Another highlight is the arched fiddleback maple top with a fantastic transparent red finish.
As pickups, the guitar is equipped with active Humbuckers from EMG which have been the signature tone for Kirk Hammett's riffs and solos for a long time. The bridge position features a legendary EMG 81 which provides every riff and solo with tight bass, sharply focused mid-range and the perfect portion of bite to cut through the band sound. On the other hand, the EMG 60 delivers a more moderate and clear sound for singing leads and sweet melodies. The pickups are controlled by a 3-way toggle switch, individual volume controls and a master-tone control.
