The amplifier is required to drive a pair of passive studio monitors and in this installation the 19” rack which contains the equipment is in the studio area and hence any fan noise is audible during playback.
Before buying the Fame amp I bought 2 amps from a different UK supplier based on recommendations from that supplier, a Behringer EPQ304 and a Subzero SZ-PAD600. Both these amps had unacceptable levels of fan noise for a studio environment so not suitable for this application.
The Fame amp in operation however is totally silent just like is says in the spec. The sound quality meets my needs as does the output power. The build quality is good with a good range of sturdy interconnects and at this price point is excellent value. I just wish I'd found this amp first.
Works perfectly in combination with my new mixer. Easy, cheap, small and neutral amp. Not prof. but good enough for people like me
For over 20 years, I've been using a Samson Servo 170 amp which buzzes and hums. For the past couple of years I've wrestled with audio cutting out intermittently on a random channel only remediated by inducing a large a volume spike to revive the audio signal - which was a PITA I slowly got used to. Repairing the Samson was an option, until I discovered this gem.
Having replaced my Samson with the FAME A-200 II, I couldn't be happier. Nowadays, I don't produce or listen to music as loud as I used to, so it suits my needs perfectly. That said, I turned up the FAME amp briefly just to check how it performs with a pair of KRK K-Rock monitors and wow. I wasn't disappointed - I didn't detect any colouring of the sound - which was my biggest concern.
The amp feels sturdy and robust. It's versatile - three modes of operation - Bridge, Parallel and Stereo, with balanced and unbalanced ins. It even has a ground-loop breaker switch - goodbye earth hum! These are professional features for both studio and live scenarios.
It's silent when switched on and there's no buzzing or humming while idle. Only now is my PC beginning to annoy me. I've never heard it's fan spinning before.
Probably the best £100 I've spent on music tech in a long time. I can't fault it. If you need a quality amp, save yourself some cash and buy this - if it disappoints you, then it's probably because your expectations are different to mine.
I have 3 of these in the studio to drive 3 sets of additional different speakers ( apart from my active Adam p11's) , ELAC, Bosch and some mix cubes. Coupled with a IMG Stage Line 25.1680 2-Channel 3-Way Line Splitter, works a treat. Great little amp.
