The Music Man DarkRay 5 Starry Night is the one hundred percent metal-ready result of a collaboration between the traditional Californian company and the Finnish effects specialists from Darkglass. Based on the well-known StingRay Special 5-string design, the chic bass guitar combines the usual agile playing characteristics with a powerful neodymium pickup and a flexible Darkglass preamp, which not only comes with a 2-band Equalizer, but also makes the earth tremble with two Distortion voicings of the Alpha ∙ Omega pedal. Of course, Music Man completes the DarkRay 5 Bass with professional Hardware in the form of a solid top-load bridge and precise Custom lightweight tuners.
The Music Man DarkRay 5 Starry Night not only impresses with its excellent playing characteristics, but also delivers top-class distortion sounds without the need for additional pedals thanks to the preamp developed together with Darkglass.

The Music Man DarkRay 5 Starry Night is based on the established design of the StingRay Special Bass and therefore impresses with a crisp sound of all strings and first-class handling. Thanks to the generous contours on the front and back, the hardwood body is perfectly balanced on the body, while the flowing sculpted joint promises easy access to the high registers. The bolt-on neck made of roasted maple with its silky oil-wax finish and easy-grip C-profile creates the best conditions for classic and modern playing techniques.

As the pickup for the DarkRay 5-String Bass, Music Man has chosen the neodymium humbucker known from the StingRay Special. Thanks to the powerful magnetic material, the Bass pickup impresses with a powerful, yet precisely defined sound that skillfully translates every nuance in bass playing and also reproduces the B-string tightly.
Flexible Darkglass preamp
The eponymous highlight of the Music Man DarkRay 5 Bass is undoubtedly the extremely flexible Darkglass preamp, which can be used to create almost any sound for rock and metal. In addition to the always active 2-band equalizer for precise adjustment of the tone in bass and treble, the electronics offer two voicings inspired by the Alpha ∙ Omega pedal. While Alpha stands for a rich bass distortion, Omega delivers a poisonous fuzz in the best sense of the word for striking Bass lines. To customize the Distortion sounds, the DarkRay offers both a gain control and a blend pot for the Mix between clean and distorted signal. In addition, a multi-colored LED ring provides information about the selected voicing.
