The Presonus StudioLive 24 Series III is a 24-channel digital mixer/recorder with 24 microphone inputs and motorised faders.
The StudioLive 24 features an integrated internal signal routing and a multitude of analogue and digital inputs and outputs. This unit can also be used as a studio console and live mixer. Equipped with 25 motorised faders, 24 XMAX microphone preamps, EQs and dynamic effects on each channel and an internal 24-track SD recorder, this mixer leaves nothing to be desired.
The StudioLive 24 features 24 channels with switchable 48V phantom power. Twelve of the connections are XLR and the other 12 are XLR/jack combos. Additionally there are two stereo aux channels and separate RCA-tape inputs. On the output side, this StudioLive mixer provides 16 mix outputs (XLR/jack), analogue master and monitor outputs, as well as a digital AES/EBU output.
The StudioLive 24 mixer is equipped with an AVB Ethernet interface that allows you to network multiple StudioLive mixers and compatible computers and transfer up to 55 audio channels to and from a Mac or Windows PC. The USB 2.0 interface makes bidirectional digital exchange and recording of up to 38 tracks possible at the same time.
The revised Fat-Channel function provides the user with high-quality effects and EQs for each channel. This allows you to select from a professional library with presets for EQ and compression or to use the vintage presets for the four internal digital processors (two delays, two reverbs). Everything can be freely edited and saved.
With its comprehensive channel processing, flexible routing, AVB networking, SD-card recording nad motorised faders, the Series III represents a big step up for the StudioLive range while maintain its excellent interface and ease of use.
Conclusion
The StudioLive Series III represents a real step up for the series, adding not only motorised faders but a load of other enhancements too; the whole package is very nicely presented and the workflow is clear and logical, with a very good degree of integration between physical controls, touch-screen and parameter/performance display… My impression of the StudiLive 24 was very positive and it was a delight to use both in the studio and abroad at live gigs and rehearsals. It’s an attractive little package that packs a much bigger punch than you might think.
