The Super 6, a 12-voice polyphonic, digital-analog hybrid synthesizer with binaural voice architecture, was developed by UDO Audio. The robust and high-quality manufactured instrument is equipped with a velocity-sensitive 49-key keyboard with aftertouch by Fatar and stands not only due to the numerous control elements for easy operability and high playing pleasure.
Sound architecture
The Super 6 features two high-resolution digital oscillators that deliver sine, triangle, sawtooth, square and noise. In addition, Oscillator 1 has 16 user wavetables and Oscillator 2 is equipped with pulse width modulation. In addition, the oscillator section offers pitch modulation, sync, cross modulation (FM), a suboscillator and an X-fade mode for mixing the tone generators. An analog 24 dB lowpass filter with a downstream rigid highpass filter and a switchable two-stage drive is used to process the rich sound spectrum. The VCA, which can be modulated by an LFO in addition to the envelope (tremolo effect), is also kept analog.
Modulations & Effects
Two different LFOs, two ADSR envelopes, pitchbender assignments, and a comprehensive modulation matrix with multiple entries that can be saved in the patch provide plenty of movement in the sound. The Super 6 is also ideal for processing audio signals, as it has an audio gear with a trigger function for driving the envelopes. The signal chain is rounded off with the two high-quality 24-bit stereo effects Delay and Chorus.
Playing aids
In addition to the good keyboard, the arpeggiator or sequencer, which are extensively equipped and can of course be synchronized to the MIDI clock, is optionally available for entering notes. In Voice Mode, the voices are assigned as a whole; Mono, Legato, Unisono and two Poly-Modes cover everything. If required, the binaural voice distribution can be switched on for very dynamic and lively voice distribution in the panorama. The Super 6 has eight banks of eight memory locations each for storing and recalling sounds you have created yourself. Those who prefer to work with the controls simply press the Manual key, then the sound heard matches the current settings and behaves like a classic analog.
The next Jupiter
If you think you have recognized a "new Roland Jupiter-6" in this sea of faders, you can be sure: optically and functionally "UDO" is based on this one, but in terms of sound it is a completely different league. The Super 6 sounds modern analog and noble digital at the same time; but also a bit British in the best sense.
