Buy Children's Guitars – 1/4 Classical Guitars at MUSIC STORE Professional

When selecting the right guitar for children, the size of the instrument is a key factor. Ideally, a young guitar student should have the opportunity to try out different guitars to find the right size. If a guitar teacher has already been chosen, it’s a good idea to ask for their recommendations. If this is not possible, here are some useful tips for buying a children’s guitar.

Classical Guitars for Beginners

1/4-size classical guitars are designed for preschool children aged 5-6 years with a height between 1.10m and 1.30m.
These guitars typically have a scale length of 47-49 cm and a total length of just under 80 cm. Since most children start learning guitar a bit later, the selection of this size is somewhat limited.

Is a Children's Guitar a "Toy" or a Real Instrument?

Brand-name instruments (e.g., from Ortega) are stable in tuning, provide correct intonation, have proper fret spacing, and are easy to play. They are well-crafted, making learning easier and improving ear training. However, such guitars—regardless of size—typically start in the three-digit price range. If you’re looking for a much more affordable option for a first attempt, there are beginner children’s guitars available for under 100 euros. However, once a child moves beyond just experimenting and begins serious lessons, a better-quality guitar will likely be needed.

Plywood or Solid Wood?

Although guitars with a solid top offer better sound quality, for a 1/4-size classical guitar, it is still recommended to choose laminated wood. This is more affordable, the difference in sound quality at this size is minimal, and most importantly: it is much more durable!

The Eye "Listens" Too!

Especially for beginners, the appearance of the guitar can help spark interest. If your child has specific preferences ("But I want a red guitar!"), take them seriously. Young musicians are more motivated to practice on instruments that look cool to them.
