My dt770's broke (another excellent set of cans). So decided to spring for something different. Seen an interview article where Aphex twin recommended these, so I took a chance on them. Have to say they are really comfortable and light, not as sturdy as Dr 770s and a lot of other headphones though. Really nice mixing on these things though, neutral sounding for me and the mix turns out well for home studio productions (all hardware setup recording - in one take, most of the time). Would definitely buy again.
Full range closed headphones, I have read about these in an AFX interview. I find them different sounding from other closed type headphones. After 1-2 weeks of breaking them in, I would describe the sound as "less direct" and a bit "tubby". The top end seems to be not very well represented but sometimes sibilant/strident (6-8k). Plenty of low end, a bit on the "boomy" side too. Interesting approach from sony, these might work for some people but try to hear them before you buy. Not sure if I'd get them again.
A fine set of headphones. Very comfortable, excellent sound, well made and robust. I like the long coiled cable which allows movement while wearing the headphones while minimising the risk of jerking the jackplug.
