A first overview of the Pro Tools MTRX Studio
All-round carefree package for ambitious studios
The Avid Pro Tools MTRX Studio is a first-class 18 x 22 AD/DA converter with full integration into Pro Tools HDX and HD Native systems and sample rates from 44.1to192 kHz. It offers 18 analog inputs and outputs and a wide range of modern digital interfaces including 2 DigiLink ports for direct connection to Avid interface cards. But you can also access all control options with all Eucon-capable devices such as Avid DAW controllers - without a second window, without driver problems.
Connections:
16 line inputs / 18 line outputs (D-sub 25)
2x monitor L/R (TRS)
2 microphone inputs (XLR)
2 Hi-Z instrument inputs on the front (TRS)
2 headphone connections on the front (TRS)
2 ADAT I/O connections for 16 x 16 ADAT channels (at 44.1 kHz)
Primary and secondary Dante port for 64 channels Dante
2 Mini DigiLink ports for 64 channels
Word Clock In/Out (BNC)
Loop In/Out for connection of Sync HD (BNC)
Footswitch connection, freely assignable eg. for triggering recording
First-class inner workings
As in the other devices in the MTRX series, AD/DA conversion is handled by premium chips from the Danish manufacturer DAD, which guarantees optimum sound fidelity and a wide dynamic range. The associated "DADman" software allows all inputs and outputs to be freely assigned for recording, producing and creating monitor mixes. The mixes can also be saved in monitor profiles and optimally adapted to the monitoring environment using the integrated SPQ loudspeaker calibration. Two of the analogue inputs are upgraded with premium preamps and can be fed directly with microphone signals.
Optional Thunderbolt 3 module
With the optional Thunderbolt 3 module, the MTRX Studio also becomes a Thunderbolt 3 audio interface with 64 channels of I/O. This makes it possible to use the integrated DigiLink interfaces with the additional flexibility of Core Audio with low latency via Thunderbolt 3. From the ability to route other applications to DADMan to advanced ATMOS workflows, the TB3 option module offers several benefits for MTRX Studio users. It supports low latency recording (1.5 mS from input -> PT -> output at 32 sample buffers, @96 kHz) and enables the simultaneous operation of several workstations (computers). All Native Audio workstations such as Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton, Cubase / Nuendo, Resolve are supported.
The MTRX Studio as the heart of your system:
Extensive expansion options
The MTRX Studio enables connection to a Dante network via the typical LAN ports. A 512 x 512 routing matrix makes it easier to control the channels distributed in the network. Additional converters can be integrated via the two ADAT interfaces and the Mini DigiLink ports. Flexible digital clocking is guaranteed by the Word Clock In/Out and Pro Tools' own loop interface, which, unlike Word Clock, ensures a stable clock signal even with a large number of devices without an external clock generator.
For which applications can the MTRX Studio be used?
This Avid converter is the perfect start or addition for all recording studios and recording rooms working with Pro Tools. It delivers excellent sound quality on a par with international productions, an outstanding connection between hardware and software and good expansion options, either for older technology via the tried-and-tested ADAT connection or, more modernly, via a Dante network.
