The Mayones Patriot MR Fretless 5 (Natural) is a 5-String Electric Bass developed together with Italian Bass Virtuoso, Big Band Leader and Lecturer Maurizio Rolli to combine the best features of Electric Solid-Body Instruments and Acoustic Upright Basses. The Polish Bass manufacturer relies on an elaborate Semi-Acoustic Construction with Spruce Top and a continuous Neck, which are complemented by a Nordstrand Pick-Up and a Piezo System. A 2-Piece Bridge set made of Ebony and the precise Ultralite Tuners from Hipshot complete the Patriot MR Fretless 5 construction.
Semi-Hollow Bass
In order to elicit the Warm and Sonorous Sound of an Acoustic Bass from the Patriot MR Fretless without having to make sacrifices with playability, Mayones relies on an elaborate Semi-Hollow Construction with a continuous Neck. This is made of 9-Piece Maple and Mahogany for high stability, while the Body Wings are made of Flamed Maple with Resonance Chambers and carry a Spruce Top with F-Hole. In addition, the Fretless Ebony Fingerboard, in which Fret-Lines and Off-Set Dots facilitate secure intonation, supports the singing sound character.
Optimized Playing Characteristics
Naturally the playing characteristics of the Patriot FR Fretless have been optimized down to the smallest details, so that Virtuoso Playing Techniques can be realized with ease. While the smoothly designed Neck Foot and the not too strong Neck Profile promise agile playing characteristics up to the highest Frets, the Finger Ramp between the Neck End and the Pick-Up prevents the fingers from dipping too deep when striking and supports a fast, light-footed attack.
Nordstrand Pick-Up & Piezo System
Maurizio Rolli chose a Nordstrand BigStack Soapbar Pick-Up for this Instrument. Placed close to the Bridge, the Pick-Up with diagonally arranged Alnico Pole Pieces and Stacked Coil Design delivers a fat Bass Tone that captures every playing detail. The FatStack can also be Split via the Push-Pull Switch in the Volume Knob for a brighter tone sound. Also sitting in the Bridge of the Mayones Patriot MR Fretless are RMC Piezo elements with Active M-PB1 Pre-Amp, which combine with the Semi-Acoustic construction to deliver authentic Acoustic Tones. Also on-board is an Active Aguilar OBP-3 3-Band EQ with selectable centre frequency for the Mid Control to precisely adjust the Tone.
High-Quality Hardware
The Mayones Patriot MR Fretless 5 is equipped with Hardware features that are perfectly matched to the special characteristics of the Instrument. The Tail-Piece is made of Ebony and guides the Strings through the Body for optimal vibration transmission, whilst the Mayones X2 Bridge, also made of Ebony, supports the Acoustic Sound Character. Behind the Ebony Nut Hipshot Ultralite Bass Tuners at the Headstock of the Patriot MR ensure an exact and robust Tuning of the 5-String. Schaller Security Locks hold the Patriot MR Fretless 5 Bass securely on the Strap.
Maurizio Rolli
Maurizio Rolli was born in 1965 in Pescara, Italy, and has demonstrated his skills as a Virtuoso Bassist with the Jazz Quartet R.A.R.E. and the trio X-Perience with Hiram Bullock and Israel Varela. He has also worked with a number of other international Jazz greats, including Mike Stern, and as leader of his Rolli's Tones Big Band. Maurizio Rolli also teaches Electric Bass, Double Bass and Jazz at the Accademia Musicale Pescarese.
