The Warm Audio WA-67 combines an exact replica of the original's tube circuitry with modern component technology, giving you a microphone with vintage sound, significantly improved noise figures, and a sound that's stable over time.
Warm Audio painstakingly modeled the capsule after the original , so that the pickup response, frequency response, and sensitivity match its values quite closely. The active element of the amplifier circuit is the EF-86 pentode, the most highly developed classic electron tube, which is still used today in new designs in studio and hi-fi technology. In addition, it has - in contrast to the EF14k of the U-47 - the advantage that it is still being built and can be obtained inexpensively in high quality and quantity.
Warm Audio also paid attention to the quality of the other components and only used selected capacitors and resistors from renowned brand manufacturers. After the capsule and circuit design, the output transformer has a decisive influence on the sound of the microphone because it sits last in the signal chain. That's why Warm Audio teamed up with the Swedish premium manufacturer Lundahl and had a large-core transformer developed that is designed precisely for the output impedance of the antique tube circuit and at the same time only influences the sound where it is intended: It is supposed to make the basses richer and the treble sparkle. To ensure that this painstakingly created sound finally reaches the preamplifier as unimpaired as possible, Warm Audio includes a connection cable from the Swiss manufacturer Gotham, which has been known for years for studio cabling of the highest price category.
Thanks to all this effort, the Warm Audio WA-67 is capable of a convincing, warm and full sound. It is suitable for almost all signal sources: For vocals, on guitar amps, on drums, eg. in Glyn-Johns mics, for acoustic guitar, piano and woodwinds or strings. In room miking, provided a good sounding room and a non-shrill source, it can develop its strong and detailed treble band to its full potential.
