The Golden Age PRE-73 Jr. Mic/Line Preamp is the little brother to our big seller, the PRE-73. It uses the same discrete (no IC´s) signal path with a transformer balanced in- and output.
In order to be able to offer this classic and musical sound character at an even more affordable price point, we did scale down on some features that is seldom used.
All the things needed for making great sounding recordings are there and the smaller format makes it possible to mount four units in our 19-inch rack kit, the UNITE MKII.
The main features of the Golden Age PRE-73 Jr. Mic/Line Preamp include:
Vintage Style class-A electronics. No intergrated circuits are used.
GAIN switch range 20 - 70 dB.
Switchable phantom power and absolute phase.
A high-impedance instrument input for any sound module, electric guitar or bass.
A simple signal LED indicator.
The output level control makes it possible to make fine gain adjustments and also to overload the main gain stage for more character and then lower the signal to a suitable level before the output stage.
Combo XLR/TRS input jack and separate output XLR and TRS jacks for flexible connections.
Insert jack for inserting EQ´s and other units.
The circuit board is prepared for the Carnhill input transformer.
External power supply to avoid interaction with the audio circuits and transformers.
A solid build quality that will last many years of normal use.
This is certainly the best budget preamp that you can have for the money. It has a similar performance as a Neve preamps only several times cheaper. I'm not expert in electronics and do not know what's in it but everything you record with instrument or microphone sounds awesome: this is a magic box through which everything sounds several times better. Forget preamps from audio interface, and I have Apogee Duet 2, this is something real strong, sturdy, thick sound for which you are searching for years. When you record first song with it , you can realize that you have finally entered in the world of professional in music production.
I love these units, I have them for the front end of my Otari MTR90 (one unit per channel!!) sounds fab, a great combo! Neve style pre amp and tape. Perfect
Have been looking to expand my mic pre collection for a while with a 1073 clone of some sort. This one is everything I hoped for, a subtle but defifnte warmth. Love it.
