The J-6 Chord Synth as part of Roland's AIRA Compact series is a very compact digital synthesizer with focus on chords and polyphony including battery operation. Thanks to the proven ACB sound generation, the J-6 shines at four-voice polyphony with authentic Juno-60 sounds, which have been recommended for decades explicitly for chords and polyphonic sounds. With the 64 preset sounds you can start right away and also have extra knobs for filter and envelope to better adjust the sound to your own taste. The signal path is rounded off with great sounding delay and reverb effects. The J-6's sequencer allows you to store 64 patterns that can be up to 64 steps (4 bars) long. With an impressive 100 chord sets ranging from traditional to modern, everything is on board that could be needed in the wide field of electronic music to create harmonies from single notes. A phrase generator with 9 styles of 12 variants each brings movement into the individual notes and chord sequences, so that the musical accompaniment succeeds in the twinkling of an eye and rhythmically to the point. Who eg. Dub Techno and the releases of Basic Channel might like the J-6 Chord Synth a lot.
Battery operation & connections
The internal lithium-ion battery allows an operating time of about 4.5 hours and is charged via USB. The J-6 can also be connected to a DAW via USB and can even be used as an audio interface to integrate the melodies and arpeggios directly into the arrangement. With the sync inputs and outputs the J-6 can be synchronized to other devices of the AIRA Compact series. Via MIDI you can connect the synthesizer to other equipment using a separately available MIDI-TRS adapter. The mix input is useful for small setups and loops signals through to the output; MixOut is a combined line and headphone output.
