PRS SE McCarty 594 BlackGoldBurst at a glance
The SE McCarty 594 BlackGold Burst brings the authentic Vintage appointments and flexible sounds of Paul Reed Smith's ingenious McCarty 594 Core Model to the affordable SE Series. Construction-wise, the guitar naturally relies on the well-known set-neck design with a sound-defining 24.594" scale length (624.7 mm), comfortable "Pattern Vintage" neck and a beautiful flame maple veneer on the maple top of the mahogany body. PRS 58/15 LT "S" low-turns humbuckers with moderate Output elicit authentic vintage tones with high warmth and airy transparency, bringing both clean and overdrive sounds to life. Of course, Paul Reed Smith Guitars completes the SE McCarty 594 BlackGoldBurst electric guitar with reliable Hardware in the form of the PRS Two Piece bridge system and tuning stable Vintage-Style tuners.
The PRS SE McCarty 594 Black Gold Burst combines authentic vintage appointments and sounds with top-notch playing characteristics.
The comfortably playable "Pattern Vintage" mahogany neck and the mahogany body of the SE McCarty 594 are glued together.
Traditional construction with 24.594" scale length
The classic set-neck construction of the SE McCarty 594 pulls out all the stops in the guitar building to combine an authentic vintage sound and premium handling in one instrument. In addition to classic elements in the form of a mahogany body with maple top and a glued mahogany neck, PRS relies on a 24.594" (624.7 mm) scale length, which not only supports the warm and singing sound character of the guitar due to the slightly reduced string tension but also guarantees buttery-smooth playing characteristics in all positions of the 22-fret rosewood fingerboard in conjunction with the pleasantly powerful "Pattern Vintage" profile. Noble appointments in the form of a heavily flamed curly maple veneer and the coveted Bird inlays also provide the authentic PRS look.
PRS 58/15 LT "S" Low Turns Humbuckers and the classic electrics with split switching promise extensive timbres with vintage character.
58/15 LT "S" Low Turns Pickups
To ensure that the SE McCarty 594 also convinces with an official Vintage feeling at the guitar amplifier, PRS 58/15 LT "S" humbuckers take over the electrical sound conversion. Developed on the basis of the best models from the Golden Era, the low turns humbuckers convince with a moderate Output and a warm sound character, so that clean sounds come up with a harmonic fullness, while overdrive sounds sound with vocal mids and can be shaped thanks to the excellent dynamics over the playing style. Both humbuckers can also be split, adding authentic single coil tones with glassy transparency to the repertoire. The traditionally built electrical system has its own volume and tone pots for precise adjustment of the guitar sound, in addition to the 3-way pickup switch.
PRS vintage-style tuners with classic keystone pianos reliably keep the SE McCarty 594 in proper tune.
Vintage Style Hardware
Last but not least, Paul Reed Smith Guitars completes the SE McCarty 594 BlackGoldBurst with reliable attachments that combine traditional looks with contemporary functionality. The PRS Two Piece Bridge System on the body consists of a solid tailpiece, into which the strings can be comfortably hung from above, and the actual TOM-style bridge, whose adjustment options guarantee exact intonation and comfortable string position. On the headstock, PRS Vintage-Style tuners also ensure precise and long-lasting robust tuning of the electric guitar.
I already exchanged this guitar for the second time for a new model, and both guitars I owned had similar quality issues in the fretboard. Rough finishes around the frets, glue marks over various frets and around the frets, holes around the inlays, this guitar simply does not meet the quality expectations for the 950€ price tag.
Everything else on the other hand is pretty good, the guitar looks beautiful with a nice finish and the maple veneer top. It also sounds amazing, with a nice warmth sound ideal for clean tones but can also give very nice overdriven and distorted sounds, off course, these are vintage pick ups so they are not meant for high output like metal sounds. The guitar was set up perfectly from factory with very good playability.
