The Sontronics DrumPack consists of a total of seven condenser microphones that are ideally suited for miking drum sets. On board is the DM-1B bass drum mic, which can also be used to record for other bass-driven instruments such as brass, double bass or organs, as well as the DM-1S, three DM-1Ts and a pair of SCT-10s. Both snare and tom condenser models have similar frequency response, but have been tuned for their respective instruments. Conveniently, the entire microphone set can be used in the studio as well as on stage, so you remain flexible not only technically but also sonically. Combined with an unbeatable price, the DrumPack Plus is a secret weapon in everyday touring and studio use.
If you're looking for a mic with precision in the bass, you can't go wrong with the DM-1B: after three years of developing the set, which also involved experienced producers and well-known drummers, the DM-1B shines with its large-diaphragm capsule, which has a rich limiting sound pressure of 140 dB. With the integrated PAD switch, the SPL figure even rises to 155 dB, so that even particularly loud playing styles on the drum kit can be recorded without any problems. Of course, the microphone - which is very elegant by the way - is also suitable for other bass-driven instruments such as brass, double basses and organs. Thanks to the special suspension, it is also easy for the user to adjust the recording angle of the cardioid.
The included DM-1T tom mics as well as the DM-1S snare mic are basically very similar, but have been adjusted in the frequency range to better emphasize the character of the respective instrument. Both models have a cardioid pickup pattern and capture the punch and tone in high resolution, so you won't miss any detail in a studio/recording situation. The limiting sound pressure here is 135 dB with the pad activated (10-dB). And although both Sontronics models are optimized for snare and toms, they also do a great job on cajons, djembes or congas, etc.
Compared to the "basic" DrumPack, this variant includes a high-resolution STC-10 small-diaphragm condenser microphone pair for overheads. The flexible STCs can be used for room miking, recording drum kits as a whole, or simply capturing the sound of cymbals. Even plucked or stringed instruments, woodwinds or even dialog and foley recordings become possible with this, while a clean sound image is always in the foreground.
