The Remo Pinstripe Clear 12 inch drumhead is well-known, made with two 7 mil Mylar plys with a measured layer of a ring reducing agent applied between them at the outer edge of their trademark stripe to dampen high frequency overtones for warmer resonance. Clear Pinstripe heads have quick decay, making them ideal heads for the “fat” sounds of Pop, Rock and R&B and for those who want a low pitched sound with moderate attack and response characteristics.
The pinstripe used to be one of Remos most popular drum head made partially famous by being used by drummers such as Lars Ulrich and other well known names. But when people bought these heads they were disappointed not to get the sound they heard on the recordings. But let me tell you the secret to getting a great sound with a Pinstripe- the shell! You need high quality THIN shells such as the Tama Star Classic and Gretsch Maple Renown etc. Putting these on cheap drums that have to use thick shells and poor bearing edges will not sound good! I am using mine for years on a Gretsch Maple Renown with Evans G Plus Coated on the bottom and my Toms sound glorious- highly recommended!
I’ve tried a bunch of different heads on different kits over the years and I always come back to these. They’re not the cheapest but they really do sound great - big and powerful Tom sound from my Yamaha oak kit with these heads
