MiCreator Studio

The Austrian Audio MiCreator Studio is a USB microphone for a wide range of applications. Thanks to its cardioid characteristic, the microphone is perfect for voice and instrumental recordings and suppresses sound that hits the back of the microphone to the maximum. It has also been designed to be placed on a table or stand. For this purpose, there is a 3/8" thread on the underside, which can be enlarged to a 5/8" thread if required using the thread adapter supplied. Thanks to the rubber feet, which are also located on the underside, the MiCreator Studio microphone always stands securely on flat surfaces. Nevertheless, it can also be used as a hand-held microphone, as it has a vibration-mounted capsule that provides optimum isolation from structure-borne noise. Regardless of where and how the microphone is positioned, it always makes sense to point the swivel head towards the source to be recorded. To counteract unwanted effects, the MiCreator Studio has an internal pop protection, which can be replaced by an optional pop protection (e.g. Austrian Audio OCP8) if it is not sufficient.

Control elements

The microphone starts automatically when it is connected via the USB-C socket, so it does not have an on/off switch. During the start-up process, a red LED flashes briefly, then the LEDs switch to green volume mode. The main headphone output is located on the back of the MiCreator Studio and is controlled via the volume/monitor control on the front. To adjust the volume, it is necessary to set the LED bar to green, which is made possible by pressing the knob. If the knob is pressed a second time, the LED bar changes color to red and monitoring settings can be made.

On the front panel there is a microphone gain switch with three engagement options. If this switch is set to "mute", the microphone is muted on the input side, which is also visually indicated by a red marking on the switch. If the switch is set to "low", the microphone signal is amplified to 0dB and to "high" to 20dB. Additional input amplification of up to 15dB is possible via the USB-C connection.

Connections

In addition to the main headphone output "out", there is another "in/out" socket on the back of the device, which can be used to connect a second pair of headphones or , for example, the MiCreator Satellite. This connection is also controlled via the volume/monitor control on the front. To adjust the input gain of the "in/otut/" socket, there is a "high/low" switch above it, whereby the values for "high" and "low" are the same as those of the switch on the front panel. If an instrument is connected via an instrument cable or a second pair of headphones, it is advisable to select the "low" option on the switch. With this setting, the input impedance is also set to the highest possible value in order to distort the signal from the connected device as little as possible. Stereo recordings are possible with the MiCreator Studio as soon as a second microphone is connected at the rear.

MiCreator Satellite

The Austrian Audio MiCreator Satellite is a handy analog microphone for perfect recordings on the go. It can be used as a stand-alone microphone or connected to the MiCreator Studio as an extension , making it possible to make stereo recordings. The acoustic properties of the MiCreator Satellite and MiCreator Studio are identical, which is why both devices can be set to the same quality for a two-channel recording. The device can also be optimally aligned to the sound source as the microphone head can be swiveled. The MiCreator Satellite has four rubber feet on the underside for a firm stand on a flat surface. If it is to be screwed onto a tripod instead, this can be done using a 3/8" or 5/8" thread (adapter included). It also offers good insulation against structure-borne noise thanks to a vibration-mounted capsule and can therefore also be used as a hand-held microphone. As the microphone has a cardioid polar pattern, the sound hitting the microphone diaphragm from the rear is suppressed to the maximum and is therefore ideal for interview or instrumental recordings.

Functions

The MiCreator Satellite has no internal amplification, which is why the volume depends on the end device. The headphone amplification is also set appropriately on the end device. If the microphone is connected to the MiCreator Studio microphone via the MCC2 link cable, the MiCreator Studio provides the optimum amplification for the MiCreator Satellite. If this is the case, the headphone output of the MiCreator Studio is forwarded to the "out" socket of the MiCreator Satellite. If both microphones are used together, the optionally available "MCMB Minibar" is recommended, onto which the microphones can be screwed at the optimum distance from each other using the MCTA thread adapters. The scope of delivery also includes an exchangeable cover plate in the color red, which can be easily attached to the device using four magnets after removing the standard plate.

Connections

The supplied MCC2 link cable is used to connect the MiCreator Satellite to another device with a TRRS socket. This cable is used to transmit the microphone signal to the end device and to send the output from the end device to the headphone socket labeled "out" on the MiCreator Satellite. Headphones can then be connected to this socket in order to hear other participants during a conference, for example. Using a Y adapter (included in the scope of delivery), it is also possible to connect to a microphone socket on a device, such as a camera, if this can provide the necessary audio power supply.
