The Yamaha YCL-457-II 20 at a glance
The Yamaha YCL-457-II 20 is a Bb clarinet that brings all the important features that make it an ideal instrument for students and advanced players, thanks to some technical improvements, its solid workmanship and its great sound. The most noticeable technical change of the YCL-457-II is an F-lifter on the left side. To simplify the response, especially in the middle and high register, Yamaha has slightly reduced the bore and adjusted the overblow hole.
For a better grip and easier covering, the thumbhole of the YCL-457-II 20 has been raised on a flat plateau, from which the lever of the overblow flap is also easier to reach. Another important improvement is the coupling of the "short" A key with the G# key. This improves the sound of the A and Bb notes and makes the G#/A trill easier. The Eb/Bb side key has also been further developed. Since the high cork on other clarinets is often broken off when plugged together, a metal foot now provides the necessary stability here.
Instead of natural cork, the YCL-457-II 20 Bb Clarinet uses only synthetic cork for padding and fine adjustment. This is more durable and keeps the adjustment constant longer. The YCL-457-II 20's thumb rest is now adjustable by 12mm, has a more stable base plate, a larger and more comfortable resting surface for the thumb, and a sturdy ring for a carrying cord if needed.
