The beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO is an open headphone that is particularly suitable for mixing and mastering applications in recording studios or demanding music listening in a quiet environment. Its reduced diaphragm mass leads to an extraordinary impulse behavior and thus ensures excellent playback quality. The robust spring steel headband gives the DT 990 PRO a secure fit and withstands all the stresses and strains of everyday studio use. Soft head and ear pads ensure high wearing comfort. The single-sided cable feed is an advantage when frequently putting the headphones on and taking them off.
Compared to the 80 Ohm version of the DT 990 PRO, the 250 Ohm version delivers slightly more pronounced high frequencies, but otherwise offers the same spaciousness and depth. In principle, headphones with high impedance values (usually 250 ohms or more) require powerful and high-performance headphone amplifiers, as the signal is otherwise too quiet or noisy. However, if you have a powerful headphone amplifier, the electrical values and therefore the transmission quality are significantly better due to the higher power than when transmitting with lower power for low-impedance headphones. High frequencies in particular are attenuated by the capacitance of the cable and the components at lower power during transmission, which will also be the reason why the 250 Ohm variant is somewhat more powerful in the high-frequency range. On the other hand, with high-impedance headphones you are dependent on the corresponding power reserves of the player. With 80 Ohm headphones, you are much more flexible and (in most cases) still get enough signal for a pleasant listening experience even with weaker outputs such as on cell phones or laptops.
