The Gibson 1955 NAMM Show Commemorative Edition Les Paul Nugget Gold is all about the famous Paulas as they were presented at the 1955 NAMM Show.
Classic Mid Fifties Les Paul construction
For the body of the Gibson 1955 NAMM Show Commemorative Edition Les Paul, the Custom store in Nashville, Tennessee uses particularly lightweight mahogany wood and manufactures the body in the classic manner from one-piece body blanks. The solid maple top, on the other hand, is made in two parts and glued with hide glue according to authentic specifications. The same applies to the neck, which not only appears particularly resonant with its long neck foot and a 1950s chunky D shape typical of the time, but is also surprisingly comfortable to play. The basic construction is completed by a 22-fret fretboard made of East Indian rosewood with artificially aged cellulose trapezoid inlays and all-round Royalite bindings on the body and fingerboard.
P-90 Soapbar pickups from the GibsonCustom store
As the penultimate vintage before the famous humbucker Paulas, the Gibson1955 NAMM Show Commemorative Edition Les Paul is naturally equipped with famous P-90 pickups in a soapbar housing. The two Gibson Custom Shop P-90 Soapbar pickups were wound especially for the special model and follow the historical model that has been used on numerous iconic Gibson classics such as the ES-150 since the 1940s. The underlying wiring is of course also at custom store level and is therefore completely hand-wired. Genuine paper-in-oil capacitors and selected CTS potentiometers ensure the authentic sound character of the Treble roll-offs via the tone pot.
Authentic '55 Hardware with Tune-o-Matic and stopbar
The absolute highlight of the original models was naturally the combination of the no-wire Tune-o-Matic bridge designed by none other than the then Gibson president and guitar pioneer Ted McCarty and the associated aluminum stopbar, which is still used on numerous Les Paul models to this day. The innovative bridge design replaced the wraparound bridge that was common until the 1954 models and featured individually adjustable string saddles that gave each string the right intonation. The authentic hardware finish with light Aged treatment from the Gibson Murphy Lab is completed by six Kluson tuners in a historic single line/single ring design.
