Traditional Semihollow Construction
The ES-335 as a representative of the semi-hollow construction features a classically crafted body with the typical Sharp Horn cutaways of the vintage, which is made of three-ply laminate of maple and poplar wood. The laminate construction, which has been tried and tested since the ES-175, is complemented by a solid center block made of maple, which favors the resonance transmission of the strings into the body and ensures that the ES-335 can be played at high gain settings without any problems. As a special feature of the '64 model, the 1964 ES-335 Sixties Cherry Ultra Light Aged's mahoganyneck, glued with a long neck root, features the incomparable Authentic '64 Medium C neck profile and the cellulose nitrate small block inlays that have been used since 1962.
Authentic Electronics
The hand-wired circuitry of the Gibson 1964 ES-335 Sixties Cherry Ultra Light Aged is also composed of two hand-wound custom bucker pickups, high-quality components from CTS and Switchcraft, and real oil-paper capacitors to get as close as possible to the sound and electronics layout of the prototype. The two hand-wound dual pickups are billed as replicas of the coveted PAF-humbucker and offer a moderate output that's up for all kinds of fun, from expressive cleans to steamy crunch tones.
Classic Hardware and Nitro Lacquer with Murphy Aging
For the right look and feel of a distinctive replica of the '64 ES-335 model in contemporary Sixties cherry, all the expertise of Murphy Lab, founded by Tom Murphy, comes into play. The aging experts have thoroughly examined numerous preserved models of the golden Gibson era in order to be able to reproduce the lacquer texture, Hardware aging and typical playing traces of old originals as true to detail as never before. The result is a successful aging process at Ultra Light Aged level, representing the condition of an instrument that has been enormously well cared for over decades, with minimal nitro lacquer cracks and slight Hardware aging.
