Rex BrownSignature Thunderbird Bass
With the Gibson Rex BrownSignature Thunderbird EbonyGibson USA tailors the bassist of the legendary groove metal formation Pantera and the heavy supergroup Down a SignatureBass whose métier is clearly driving riffs with devastating sound. Inspired by Rex Brown's '71 Thunderbird, the four-stringer comes in a classic set-neck design and impresses not only with the smooth handling of the "rounded" neck made of mahogany but also with the powerful sound of two active Gibson Rexbucker pickups. While a Hipshot SuperTone bridge and Hipshot Ultralite tuners with D-Tuner for the fast dropping of the E-string complete the equipment, Rex Brown's signature on the truss-rod top and the doodle he drew on the E-box cover make the Rex BrownSignature Thunderbird an absolute collector's item.
The Gibson Rex Brown Signature Thunderbird Ebony convinces with first-class playing characteristics and brute bass sounds.
Due to the slim "Rounded" profile with 38 mm nut width, the glued mahogany neck promises excellent playing characteristics.
Set-Neck Thunderbird with fast neck.
When designing its Signature Thunderbird, Rex Brown pays special attention to a powerful sound with endless Sustain and smooth handling. Accordingly, the electric bass guitar features a mahogany body and a mahogany neck glued according to the classic set-neck method with a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard. The pleasantly flat "Rounded" neck profile with 38 mm nut width lies comfortably in the hand, so that even complex high-speed bass lines can be implemented with ease.
Active Gibson Rexbucker Thunderbird pickups provide hard bass sounds with devastating low end foundation and aggressive midrange growl.
Active Rexbucker Pickups
The Rex Brown Thunderbird's electrical sound transformation is handled by two Gibson Rexbucker pickups designed specifically for this model. The active humbuckers, which bear the initials of the Pantera bassist, elicit devastating bass sounds from the bass amplifier, hammering hard grooves into the pit of the stomach with an adequate low-end punch and a richly growling midrange. If desired, the pickups can also be played passively for more traditional tones. In addition to individual volume controls for each pickup, the Rex BrownSignatureBass has a classic treble knob for adjusting the sound.
Lightweight Hipshot Ultralite tuners not only keep the Rex Brown bass securely in tune, but also prevent neck dive. The Xtender on the E-string allows quick retuning to Drop-D.
Optimally tuned Hipshot hardware
Last but not least, an optimally tailored hardware equipment from Hipshot completes the Gibson Rex BrownSignature Thunderbird Bass. The massive Hipshot SuperTone bridge is used on the body, which not only supports the sustain-rich sound of the E-Bass, but also guarantees precise adjustment of intonation as well as string action and spacing. On the typical Thunderbird Reversed headstock, lightweight Hipshot Ultralite tuners also ensure accurate and robust tuning, with the Xtender D tuner on the E string allowing quick retuning to Drop D.
