KORG’s volca nubass delivers huge bass via a real vacuum tube
The volca nubass from Korg is an analog desktop synthesizer with a newly developed tube technology for the oscillator. At the heart of this instrument is a new type of NuTube tube, which contains two triode circuits. The first one acts as an oscillator and generates sawtooth or square wave, the second one is a tube distortion circuit downstream of the filter. A sub-oscillator, adjustable in level and distortion, provides an extra pound of boost in the bass range. Not only because of the classic lowpass filter in the middle of two tubes one may attest the sound something grumpy and above all a lot of crunch. There is no digital whitewashing at work here, but rather primal analog honesty with a good portion of funk.
Parameter automation
The volca-type sequencer holds 16 patterns with a total step length of up to 16 steps in its memory. By chaining patterns, lengths of up to 256 steps are possible. With Accent and Slide you can realize typical acid basslines in no time. Several parameters can be recorded directly for each pattern.
