The Roland RD-88 EX is a lightweight, compact stage piano that is suitable for both the stage and the living room. Despite its 88-weight, velocity-sensitive keys and built-in speakers, the RD-88 EX only weighs 13.5 kg. The keyboard itself is a PHA-4 standard keyboard with excellent playing characteristics. The surface of the keys has an ivory feel, which significantly reduces finger slippage and has a very high-quality feel. Like the manufacturer's larger models, the RD-88 EX features SuperNATURAL pianos and electric pianos. A selection of over 3000 sounds from the ZEN-Core sound generation, covering all styles including organs, wind instruments and synthesizer sounds, and 400 scenes always ensure the right sound selection.

The EX version includes the SuperNATURAL Acoustic Piano 3 extension. This is another premium concert piano option that complements the existing sounds and 15 distinctive Tones and 20 Scenes, from bright, dynamic sounds for live band performances to darker textures for solo work and ambient pieces.

The Stage Piano can be played multitimbral on three parts. This benefits all players who like to work with split zones and/or have certain parts contributed by the DAW in parallel to their own playing. With 90 different effects for zones and scenes, there should be something suitable for pretty much every situation. The entire signal path is enhanced by a master compressor and EQ. The microphone input of the RD-88 EX is equipped with its own Equalizer and reverb effect. Other features include rhythm patterns that offer numerous variations for rhythmic accompaniment, audio playback of WAV files from a USB stick, master keyboard functionality, a user-friendly interface with intuitive controls and a powerful 2x 6 watt stereo speaker system.
