The Elta Music Polivoks PF3 in detail
The Polivoks PF3 from Elta Music is a dual Multimode filter with the legendary filter sound of the Formanta Polivoks. The compact filter box has two identical channels which, in addition to the usual filter parameters, offer a choice between lowpass, bandpass, highpass and notch characteristics. In addition, each filter can be mixed individually if you still need some of the original signal. Depending on how you wire the device, you can use it in stereo or dual mono. Serial is also available if you only connect In1 and Out2; in this case, the slope increases to a generous 24dB. If no input signal is available or you simply want more dirt in the signal path, you can mix the internal noise generator, which supplies white or pink noise, to one of the two channels. The clever link function makes it possible to transfer an input CV signal from channel 1 to channel 2. The same applies to FREQ, in which case you can set both channels simultaneously using Cutoff 1. In itself, the Polivoks filter is one of the tougher candidates. The filter is never absolutely clean, even with the filter open it colors slightly. As the resonance increases, dirt and a certain scratchiness are added. The HARD/SOFT switch can be used to change the basic character of both filters. In HARD mode, the filters behave as rough and rugged as you would expect, while in SOFT mode the circuit is stripped of all its dirt and impudence. This shifts the slope somewhat, making the circuit sound much more like the more "musical" Maestro synthesizer from the same era of Soviet synths.
