Product information Fame Pro Series - VT-67

Tube microphone with 9 directional characteristics

The VT-67 from Fame's Pro Series is a tube microphone with switchable polar patterns. This studio microphone offers a choice of cardioid, octagonal, omnidirectional and six intermediate stages, which can be adjusted via the power supply. This makes it an excellent all-round microphone for recording vocals and instruments for project studios and ambitious home recording.

Processing and sound

The use of very high-quality components, such as Lundahl transformers and selected EH6072A tubes, gives the microphone its very warm, characteristic, full sound with very low self-noise. A sound that is very popular with musicians and sound engineers for a reason. The microphone itself has two switches that can be used to optionally activate a -10db attenuation and a lowcut.

Features of the VT-67:

  • Polar pattern: cardioid, eight (bidirectional), omnidirectional (omni) and six intermediate stages
  • Lundahl transformer
  • High-quality EH 6072A tube
  • Frequency range: 20 Hz - 20 kHz
  • Sensitivity: 0dB = 20mV/Pa at 1 kHz
  • Impedance: 200 Ohm
  • Equivalent inherent noise: 16 dB (A-weighted)
  • Maximum sound pressure: 144 dB

  • Power supply unit
  • Premium shock-mount

Review from Sound on Sound magazine - by Paul White, June 2020

Pros

  • Exceptional value for a multi-pattern valve mic.
  • Works well on a variety of sound sources.
  • Getting a genuine Lundahl transformer at this price is an unexpected bonus.

Cons

  • None at the price.

Summary

A good-value all-rounder that adds a nicely subtle dash of valve flavouring to any recording.

Alternatives

While there are several valve mics that come in under the £800 mark, this is one of the least costly multi-pattern valve mics I've yet encountered.
