The SPL Phonitor se is the most affordable model of the proven Phonitor headphone amplifier. It uses the same amplifier circuitry, a Phonitor matrix and can also be equipped with a DAC card with PCM, S/PDIF and ADAT inputs.
SPL's proprietary VOLTAiR technology uses special discrete operational amplifiers that can tolerate an operating voltage of 120V. This is approximately twice the voltage that can be expected from standard opamps. Due to the high operating voltage, signal-to-noise ratio and total distortion can be improved by about 4.5 times (13dB) and are on par with the values measured on an industrial quality signal generator.
The Phonitor se's power amplifier delivers up to 5W of output power on each channel at the headphone output. This allows you to drive not only very high-impedance
Like the other models in the Phonitor range, the Phonitor se features the Phonitor Matrix. This purely analogue circuit simulates the surround sound of a pair of speakers set up in a perfect stereo triangle. Depending on the setting, corresponding portions of the opposite channel are frequency-corrected and mixed into the left and right channels, thus faithfully simulating the natural crosstalk between the left and right ears when listening in a real room. You have to hear it, the effect is truly amazing! With the Phonitor se, this matrix is available to you in the form of 2 presets.
With the optional digital-to-analog converter DAC768xs, the SPL Phonitor se can be extended to the common digital formats S/PDIF and ADAT and additionally allows the connection of PC, Mac and Apple devices via USB. The converter card has been redesigned especially for the Phonitor se and resolves PCM audio up to 768kHz at 32bit dynamic depth. Direct Stream Digital is also recognized and supported with a resolution of DSD4 respectively DSD256. This means that even the finest sound details are reproduced accurately - more accurately than in many a mastering studio!
