The Heet Sound Products EBow Sustainer is a hand-held electronic bow for use with guitars. The compact 9V battery-powered EBow unit is designed to replace the pick in the right hand so a guitarist can mimic orchestral strings, horns and woodwinds with incredible sensitivity. The EBow produces a powerful infinite sustain, rich in harmonics for incredible guitar sounds. The EBow lets you play as fast as your left hand can scurry through a lick. Fade a string in from a motionless state for a reverse-tape effect. Run the EBow across the strings for gorgeous arpeggios. Add distortion for a screaming guitar sound. Playing the EBow directly over the pickup will increase your volume many fold and give you the crisp sound of super-hot pickups. Moving away from the pickup gives you the mellow sound of a hollow body electric. The sounds you discover by experimenting with the EBow will amaze you. And like the best tools of the trade, the EBow will sound different for each musician.
I looked through several videos on YouTube with successfull using of Ebow onbass and tried it myself. It sounds great on light strings and is very useful for producing ambient loops, especially with delay and other sound mod pedals. But it may be a bit tricky for operation on bass due to heavy strings and slow acceleration, so it takes certain time to master this little buddy.
Its a nice toy to play strange licks on one string.
Its a bit "tricky" to use, for instance its hard to jump from one string to another and doing so will mainly results in getting annoying squeaky noises from the hard plastic of the ebow sliding and rubbing on the adjacent strings while moving from one string to another.
It doesnt work very well on the treble E string which is a big too THIN for being set into motion by the ebow.
Also, the ebow produces annoying noises when moving above a pickup, so its best to use it between pickups.
It is practically impossible to play a chord using the ebow ... you cant hover it up and down and expect to set the strings into motion ... the ebow would then be too far from the strings.
The best use is to develop your playing and phrasing on one single string for a complete solo or a pattern.
It can come somewhat close to the technique of instruments like sitars where long phrases are often developed on one single string while going up and down the neck of the instrument.
So, dont expect to be playing the same stuff as what you usually play with standard guitar technique.
A must have for Post rock and other kinds of dramatic noisy rock. If youd like to purchase an Ebow, make sure you buy the Ebow Plus. This one allowes you to chose between normal or harmonic sound. I borrowed one of my uncle and I loved it right away, after that I bought one.
This small gadget opens up a lot of possibilities for guitarists. The 2 settings give great slide guitar effects in itself but added to pedals and the possibilities are endless.
You may have heard the ebow being used by both Depeche Mode and Kajagoogoo.
It is inexpensive, easy to use, sounds interesting and enables a whole range of creativity.
The item arrived quickly, regular delivery updates were received and the item was flawless.
Very happy with purchase
The ebow is a must have piece of equipment for any guitarist interested in atmospheric sounds, soundscapes and some other kinds of music. Its easy and fun to use and allows for a high variety of unique high and low toned sounds and harmonics. Very good.
