In 1983 the founder Hans Nordelius created the Digital Percussion Plate 1 - the first dynamically playable drum pad with sampled sounds. The DPP1 was an instant success, and soon after, the brand name ddrum was introduced. The innovative ddrum pads with real skins and rings were very popular.

In 1995 Clavia released his first synthesizer, the Nord Lead. Like no other digital synthesizer before, it was able to emulate analog synthesis. The unmistakable sound combined with an intuitive user interface immediately made it a classic. Magnus Kjellander joined Clavia in '96 and brought a new approach to software design. Nord Modular, released in 1997, was the first digital modular synthesizer and possibly the most flexible and innovative synthesizer ever.

In 2001, the first Nord Electro was launched, a series that remains successful to this day. Expressive and portable at the same time, it easily manages the balancing act between stage piano and organ. This was followed by excellent piano and organ emulations (C-2), which were later implemented in the Nord Stage series together with Nord Electro Features. Both model series are still in use today.

The legacy of the Nord Lead was also continued, which was updated and varied in version 2, later presented itself as NL3, a true FM specialist, and is currently performing as studio and stage work bulls number 4 and A1. With a total of four different models, the Nord Drum Percussion synthesizers convinced fans of electronic drum sounds as well as drummers. With many years of break between the first and the current model, Clavia has created an excellent symbiosis of synthesizer and sample integration with the Nord Wave.

What began in 1983 in a cellar workshop can now be seen and heard all over the world. Because the chic chimney red of the Clavia/North cases simply catches the eye.
