I used to use an M-Audio audiophile 2496 PCI which I loved for its analog RCA inputs that meant using it as an internal soundcard with an external analog mixing desk was straightforward. It is legacy PCI however so when I upgraded my pc, no motherboards have this connection anymore.
The ESI seems to be the last affordable modern-ish option with which to do this with ongoing Windows 10 driver support so i was excited to pick one up and use it. I've had no problems so far, installing the pci-e x1 into a pci-e x16 slot was surprisingly easy and worked, little to my knowledge of this before. Great, simple digital routing options with the ESI software and very impressed with the low 48 sample latency. The reason I like to be able to use an analog desk is so that I can record the output of the pc straight back in without trying to get my head around the digital routing and the maya does the trick perfectly.
Huge improvement over the woe of the external Akai EIE pro I've been using for a few years in the interim.
Very limited/basic input output had problems routing this card and its buggy on rebooting studio one Windows version, keep having to check audio settings.
high noise thresh hold a lot more than advertise.
having to use broadband noise filter ACORN my favourite for ease of use.
Try using this with Melodyne stand alone too much noise and cant monitor microphone so pretty useless, had to resort to combining a audio interface but recording stutter and clicks and pops.
I got this card to reduce latency and direct record in to DAW while monitoring.
I feel disappointed and the money feels wasted.
