Problem and solution
Compact, easily transportable drum sets are becoming more and more popular. Most of these so-called street or Jam kits are equipped with a 16" Bass Drum, and that's where the problem lies: Bass Drum heads were usually only available in sizes from 18" upwards, and in addition many of the 16" Bass drums are in fact converted floor toms on which a head made for Bass drums does not easily fit. The solution to this problem is presented by the American manufacturer Evans with the new 16" Bass Drum heads from the most popular series of its range.
Bass Hoops or Tom Hoops?
But the 16" size is not the only special feature of the new skins. Indeed, the skins from the EMAD, EQ4, GENERA and EQ3 series are each available in two different versions. The "Bass Hoop" skins fit regular Bass drums with a 16" diameter, while the "Tom Hoop" skins are suitable for converted floor Toms.
Evans EMAD
EMAD series drumheads are among the most popular Bass Drum drumheads around because they feature a very flexible damping system. With the help of the integrated holder in the skin can be mounted in no time two different damping rings to achieve the desired damping. For a completely undamped skin, you can of course simply leave the rings out.
