The FMG-1 Custom Maple Shellset Cherry Gloss Mel Gaynor Signature is a high-end drum kit made of maple. Our Mel Gaynor Signature series was designed and assembled according to the wishes of the "Simple Minds" drummer and is currently played by him in various configurations in the studio and on tour. Equipped with Maple Keller shells (former shell manufacturer for DW), it delivers superbly balanced sound with high bass content and excellent complexity. The eight layers of maple with a total thickness of 5.5 mm on all shells deliver remarkable dynamics and excellent resonance. Remo heads (custom made) underline the high-end quality. The outside of the Fame Custom Maple shells is decorated with a cherry veneer with fleece backing. The natural beauty of the cherry wood harmonizes perfectly with the chrome-plated hardware and the Fame Toaster Lugs. All Fame Custom Drums are manufactured according to individual requirements in Germany.
Mel Gaynor was the drummer of the cult rock band Simple Minds for almost 35 years, with whom he celebrated many musical world successes since the eighties and played countless concerts, including the Live Aid concert in Philadelphia in 1985, which reached almost 1.5 billion people worldwide. Additionally, he is a producer and songwriter. In addition to Simple Minds (1982-1992, 1997-2017), Mel Gaynor has played for artists such as Tina Turner, Elton John, Lou Reed, Gary Moore and Brian May. He also tours regularly worldwide as a solo artist with his own band. Mel Gaynor plays a Fame Custom Drumset in exactly this design as well as various Fame snare drums made of brass, acrylic and maple. Furthermore he was equipped with Fame B20 Cymbals and Fame Hardware. The new Fame Hybrid Pro sound module with matching triggers completes his set-up.
