When designing the Axe Design Lab j.custom RG8870, Ibanez paid particular attention not only to the excellent handling of the guitar, but also to a particularly lively and resonant sound. Large resonance chambers not only significantly reduce the weight of the alder body so that the guitar does not pull on the shoulder even after long gigs, but also color the sound with an airy response and subtle acoustic timbre. The five-piece maple and wenge neck promises excellent playing characteristics thanks to the flat "RG j.custom Super Wizard" profile with just 17 mm of wood under the first fret, so that even complex playing techniques can be performed with ease. In addition to the intensely grained curly maple top in premium AAA quality, the elaborate tree-of-life inlay of the Macassar ebony fingerboard underlines the elegant look of the electric guitar.

In the bridge position, the powerful DiMarzio The Tone Zone humbucker provides juicy drive and distortion sounds with razor-sharp articulation and enormous assertiveness, while the True Velvet single coil in the middle position contributes bell-like timbres.
