Ibanez RG electric guitar at a glance
The Ibanez Standard RG420EX-BKF Black Flat is a workhorse tuned for metal from head to toe, which is clearly designed for driving riffs and neat shredding, both visually and sonically. The 6-string electric guitar with its elegant matt black look is based on the RG design, which is extremely popular among fans of the heavier genre, and comes with some interesting appointments: two powerful humbuckers for first-class metal sounds and, of course, a particularly slim neck, which is also available for more technically demanding fretboard action.
RG body made from Meranti & Wizard III neck
The RG body of the Ibanez Standard RG420EX-BKF Black Flat is made of resonant meranti with classic pointed contours and a wide Cutaways range and always offers a comfortable playing position, even on longer sessions, thanks to the generous tummy cut and a practical forearm contour. For the fretting hand, on the other hand, the mapleWizard III neck offers unhindered playability, which is in no way restricted thanks to the proven Ibanez All-Access Neck Joint, even when playing in the highest fingerboard positions.
Ibanez Quantum Humbucker
The two Ibanez Quantum humbuckers are responsible for the sound of the Ibanez Standard RG420EX-BKF Black Flat and produce a powerful sound that really comes into its own in the high gain range. However, the fact that the Ibanez Standard RG420EX-BKF Black Flat is also capable of covering other sound requirements without any problems is proven by its versatile circuitry, which is equipped with a pickup selector switch with five positions and offers particularly interesting switching options including parallel switching of the neck humbucker.
Ibanez Edge-Zero II Tremolo & Black Hardware
Fans of breathtaking lead techniques in particular will have a lot of fun with the Ibanez Edge-Zero II tremolo. The tremolo system with its double-locking design offers some welcome improvements over its predecessor and impresses with its extremely reliable operation and indestructible tuning stability. The Ibanez Standard RG420EX-BKF Black Flat is completed by six die-cast tuners and visually appealing dome poti caps in a uniform black finish.
Guitar arrived in a good condition. A quick look inspection revealed a flaw in the neck, there was a scratch mark. The back covers weren't flush with the body. Playing wise, the action was a bit too high so I needed to lower it a bit. The frets are horrible, scratchy & needed polishing and filing. The fingerboard was dry and needed some hydration. Electronics are perfect and did not require any more work, but the pickup needed height adjustment. Tuners are in good condition as well. The guitar was not tuned out of the box but that's fine.
