The wavestate module from Korg transfers the famous wave sequencing synthesis from the wavestation built from 1990-1994 into a new era! The synthesizer scores with the new Wave Sequencing 2.0 synthesis, which was introduced in the wavestate 1 and is also easy to use. The extended sound generation is complemented by twelve filter models and four powerful effect blocks that provide delay, reverb, modulation and special effects. The module version can be mounted in a 19" rack or used as a compact desktop unit and has more memory based on the mkII version. The synthesizer is factory-equipped with MIDI 2.0 and processes polyphonic aftertouch. Depending on the algorithm used, the instrument has up to 120 voices. Of course, the sounds are fully compatible with each other within the wavestate family.
The core of Wave Sequencing 2.0 synthesis is that the duration, sample and pitch can be assigned to each step of a wave sequence. Timing, order, note duration, sequence values and other parameters are summarized under the term "lanes" and can be defined in more detail with loop positions, number of steps and starting point. In interaction with the four envelopes, three LFOs, velocity, joystick and other sources, a complex sound construction is created that is currently incomparable to any other synthesizer. Within the sequences, it is also possible to incorporate randomness or to modulate the steps from 0-100 percent with probability.
The wavestate module offers both: twelve filter models have been implemented to suit every taste. These include the Korg classics MS-20 Lowpass and MS-20 Highpass, which have a much snappier sound, and the powerful, round Polysix filter. There are four effect blocks per layer, which include various
The performance-oriented operation of the wavestate module is reflected in the numerous control elements, which are also characterized by only a few duplicate assignments. All sound-relevant parameters are directly accessible and selected parameters can be assigned to the eight white controls as required. As the sound generation of the wavestate module is made up of four layers, the Vector joystick is the perfect tool for adjusting their levels. The large display provides an optimum overview and handling.
The wavestate module is an Eldorado for sound tinkerers. Modulations and variations of what you would expect from a well-equipped modular system enliven the sound of this synthesizer in an amazing way. The bulging sample memory with four gigabytes of capacity also contributes to this. Are you lacking inspiration or would you like a new variation that you haven't thought of yet? One press of the cube button and the intelligent random function recomposes a partial aspect of the sound or even the entire layer.
The module version offers all the features of the push-button models, but as a desktop-compatible 19" rack unit, it takes up very little space. Mounted in the rack, 4 HU must be kept free; no extra space is required for the cables as the connections are recessed in the housing. There are two installation angles on the table, which vary when the rack ears are mounted upside down.
