Kastle Drum - tiny modular groovebox
Bastl Instruments B Drum Kastle at a glance
The Kastle Drum from Bastl Instruments is a miniaturized, patchable drum synthesizer with industrial-like glitch drums. In the same case as the Kastle 1.5, it again offers a lot of functionality in a small space. Drum patterns are built somewhat unorthodox with a few patch connections, programming grooves in the device is not provided. If you want to control the cool sounds from a Eurorack sequencer, you can feed the necessary triggers via the I/O socket. This socket can be used for signals of all kinds (clock, trigger, CV, audio...) and works input as well as output. The synthesis provides for no less than eight different drum models, additionally a noise generator is available, which is most suitable for snare and hi-hat. The dynamic envelope has a very percussive behavior. The lineout is powerful enough to drive headphones.
Prepare to spend hours noodling away with this little modular drum groovebox. Whether you know what your'e doing, or just plugging in the patch wires randomly, there's something quite cathartic about using this instrument. Highly recommend watching the tutorial on the Bastl Instruments youtube page.
This is a great little experimental sound and rhythm generator. You can explore without knowing what it does and stumble across weird and wonderful patterns or go in on the deep dive YouTube tutorial from Vaslav from Bastl. Don't expect predictable or easily repeatable results. Do expect sonic exploration and having a fun time doing it.
