The Behringer CT200 Cable Tester is an 8-in-1 cable tester featuring three modes, an LED display, a continuity check and a phantom power and ground shield check. The CT200 accepts every type of cable you might use in a recording or live performance situation including XLR, Speaker Twist, TRS (1/4", 1/8"), RCA, RJ45, MIDI and USB. This cable tester includes three diagnostic modes: Cable Test, installed Cable Tester or Tone. The CT200 can check for continuity, intermittent or shorted connections, the presence of phantom power and grounded shields.
The main features of the Behringer CT200 Cable Tester include:
The build quality in all metal is very reassuring and well designed layout that feels tuff, but what where you thinking about the battery compartment, while it feels sturdy it is awkward putting batteries in but even more difficult taking them out and the battery door is only held shut with the small screw lose that and the battery door will note stay in place, even if this area was plastic we could forgive you (Behringer) for that.
The Behringer CT200 is a compact handy tester to have with you while setting up a live performance, what it lacks is a fuller range of connections so if like me you are connecting different pieces of gear together which use different connectors like 1/4” TRS to an XLR pair but Behringer really overlooked one of the most common leads used is the 1/4” TS, would Behringer consider a version 2 that with a switch to select between TRS or TS then this tester won’t work you will have to switch back to a multi-meter but for speed of use it’s in a class of it’s own and I do like how it retains the reading which is very handy if you have an intermittent connection.
I have looked at other testers and while may offer more connection options they are all based round a rotary switch which over time can start to ware (and give false readings) plus they don’t seem to hold readings like an intermittent connection, so while this is my tester of choice, please Behringer would you consider a version 2 that can be used with TS and TRS.
For around £45 or less it’s a tool worth having with you at gigs, small enough to fit in most cases with your other gear, easy to read display, the biggest let down is that battery compartment and if you can live with that then I would recommend this tester.
a multi-function cable tester with built-in tone generator for a very low price - its brilliant!!!
This is my third (that's the only problem - they're so good, they keep disappearing!)
My band is more confident when we go on stage because we have tested and grounded all our cables.
This is a must for every band, electric musician, sound crew or even studio.
