Modern high-end in a timeless design
The SPL Director MK2 in silver is the further development of the Director reference preamplifier and now works with up to 32 bit and sampling rates up to 768 kHz as well as DSD4 and DSD256. It allows fans of analog tape machines or external sound processing to loop into a tape monitor path, while six stereoanalog inputs - two of which are balanced with XLR jacks - are available. On the digital level, optical and coaxial S/PDIF signals, AES/EBU signals, and PCM and DSD audio signals can be converted via USB. After about two seconds, the dot matrix LED display shows the detected sample rate when a digital source is selected. For example, U768 = USB input with 768 kHz sampling rate. The Director MK2 has also grown a bit in height and features a large 45mm aluminum rotary knob with position LED and two mechanical VU meters, while the design still impresses with its simple, elegant style.
Controllable with any infrared remote control
The Director MK2 Preamp can be controlled remotely with any commercially available infrared remote control. For this purpose, it can be quickly and easily programmed to the respective remote control via the"Learn IR-Remote" switch on the back. The respective buttons of the infrared remote control can be freely assigned to the 4 functions louder, softer, next source and previous source. Please note that the source selection can only be operated remotely if the rotary switch is set to the "Remote" position.
The VOLTAiR technology
120V technology is SPL'sreference technology. It is unique in the world of audio because it operates at a DC voltage of 120 volts. This is equivalent to four times the operating voltage of IC-based semiconductor operational amplifiers. This sophisticated technology has been christened"VOLTAiR Technology" by SPL. It achieves exceptional technical specifications and sonic benefits. Technically, in terms of dynamic range, signal-to-noise ratio and clipping resistance. Sonically, in terms of richness of detail and an absolutely relaxed listening experience.
Most audio devices work with an internal operating voltage of +/-15 volts and can thus handle a maximum input level of +21.5 dBu. If a DA-converter, for example, has an output level of +22 dBu at 0 dBFS, level peaks of the music material would already cause overloads in the input stage of the device. All components in the audio device often operate at their limits. The result is an unsteady sound that causes stress and faster ear fatigue.
Devices from SPL with VOLTAiR technology can handle input levels of +32.5 dBu thanks to the higher internal operating voltage of +/- 60 volts - thus offering 12 dB more headroom. Consequently, all components operate continuously in the optimal operating range. The result is a very pleasant, natural and relaxed sound experience. So you can enjoy your music in every detail.
