The Doepfer A-100 Basic System 2 in LC9 is a modular synthesizer in low cost housing. The A-100 BS1 is a solid starting point for working with the A-100, if no MIDI connection is required, and the BS2 if identical, but features a MIDI interface. The LC9 is an advancement on 9U or three rows of modules version of the low cost suitcase with 6U. Since only one power supply is needed, this version the cheapest option per module's width. Otherwise, the low-cost case with 9U is identical to the version with 6U.
There are no fixed rules for which and how many modules are required in an analog modular system. If you are a beginner, you might have problems in finding the right combination of modules for a basic system. Thus, Doepfer has arranged some system packages to start with, containing the modules in the specs below. The main difference between the basic systems 1 and 2 is the MIDI interface. System 1 is not equipped with a MIDI interface. If you want to control this system with MIDI you need an external MIDI-to-CV interface (e.g. MCV24 or MCV4). System 2 contains the MIDI interface A-190 instead of the two modules A-150 (Dual VCS) and A-162 (Dual Trigger Delay).
The modules are mounted into a 6U base frame and each system contains 30 patch cables (mixed length and color). The basic systems 1 and 2 are available also as portable suitcase versions. Because of the 8HP power input the suitcase versions contain one module less (system 1: no A-162 / system 2: no A-170). Additionally Doepfer offers a minimal "Entry System" built into a 3HU base frame with MIDI interface containing all modules for absolute basic applications of the A-100.
