Can be used standalone or as Eurorack module (42 TE)
incl. ribbon cable & MIDI-TRS adapter
The Hades Reissue from Dreadbox is an analogue desktop synthesizer with a focus on powerful, deep bass sounds. In Greek mythology, Hades is the god of the underworld, and in the case of this synthesizer, the extra-deep bass sounds that this compact instrument is capable of producing can also be placed far below. The new edition presents itself in a new housing, which gives the user the choice between desktop operation or as a Eurorack module (42 TE). Power is now supplied via USB (power supply not included). The connections for MIDI and audio output are located on the front panel of the Reissue.
A construction kit for basslines
The structure of the Hades consists of an oscillator with sawtooth and square waveform including pulse width modulation. The oscillator is followed by two level-adjustable sub-oscillators, calibrated to -1 and -2 octaves. The filter is a resonant 18dB Lowpass filter; 303 moments are less to be expected here, but it sounds extremely creamy and somewhat fuzzy. The filter is followed by a powerful distortion element whose spectrum ranges from slightly warming up to overdriving the signal. The last element is a fast reacting VCA. Filter, distortion and VCA are based on OTA circuits, which sonically goes in the direction of old Roland synthesizers and is generally perceived as very musical.
Punchy Basslines & FM Alarm
The modulation section consists of an A/R envelope for the VCA, a slightly percussive ADS(R) for the filter and a free LFO with triangle waveform, whose time range goes from about 10 min to 3000 Hz. If you include the control voltage inputs and outputs, you get new sounds that would not be possible without the patch jacks. Keytracking for the filter, PWM in the audio section and wobbling tremolo effects with the VCA are only a part of the possible patches.
