Moog Subsequent 25

Monophoner Analogsynthesizer

The Moog Subsequent 25 is a monophonic or duophonic playable 25-key analog keyboard synthesizer that is closer in sound to the Subsequent 37 and combines the clear control panel of the Sub Phatty.

A classic Moog

Two analog oscillators with crossfadeable waveforms and the typical and popular "Moog Growl" including hardsync, a sub-oscillator and the noise generator form the heart of the Moog Subsequent 25. The first sound-shaping instance in this synthesizer is the mixer, which adds harmonic distortion from the middle position upwards and thus modifies the waveforms accordingly. The equally analog lowpass filter (transistor ladder) can be switched between 6, 12, 18 and 24 dB and has its own distortion parameter that allows a wide range of sound modification from soft to hard. Two crisp ADSR envelopes of the Subsequent 25 are permanently assigned to filter and VCA.

Play me!

The almost self-explanatory operating concept of the Moog Subsequent 25 together with the velocity-sensitive and aftertouch-capable keyboard forms a successful unit for playing rousing basslines and lead melodies. 16 memory locations are distributed over four banks of four presets each. In panel mode, all current settings are queried, which makes the Subsequent behave like a primal analog synthesizer without memory slots: you get what you see.

Shift Mode in the Moog Subsequent 25

With the Subsequent 25, it is indeed advisable to take a look at the user manual. Here all global settings and especially all shift functions are described in detail, which functionally enhance the instrument significantly. Envelope triggering, settings for the LFO like range, waveform modulation target and tracking, monophonic or duophonic play, but also the number of filter poles (1-4 at 6dB each) can be switched here among other things.
