Mutable Instruments Stages is an envelope module for modular synthesizers in Eurorack format. It can generate an ASR envelope or a complex 6-step envelope. It can also be used as an LFO or 4-step step sequencer. The module detects the presence of cables at its gate inputs to group its three segments. Whether you need a complex envelope or multiple simpler modulations, Stages reconfigures itself depending on which of its gate inputs are patched. The module can also create loops.
Ramp: Ramp segments go from one voltage to the next in a CV-controlled time span with an adjustable curve (increasing, uniform, decreasing). They are the device used for the attack, decay or release segments in envelopes or for LFOs
Hold: Hold segments remain at a constant (but CV-controllable) voltage for a programmable period of time.
Step: Step segments slide to a target voltage (CV-controllable), then remain on this voltage for a certain time until a trigger is received.
They are the main component for step sequencers, but also for the construction of sequential switches or for a sample-and-hold.
A segment or group of segments can loop itself: If the last segment of the envelope is contained in the loop, it goes endlessly. Otherwise, the loop remains active while the gate is high, and then continues beyond the last segment of the loop. These two behaviors allow the creation of self-looping envelopes (LFOs) or the sustain phase of an ADSR envelope.
