With an alder body and the six-ply, comfortably playable maple neck, the traditional basics of the Forty Eight design are used, which are complemented by a flexible pickup setup with active 2-band EQ. Indestructible SandbergHardware in Pearl Black Finish completes the Forty Eight 4 Custom Airbrush E-Bass from Sandberg.
Sandberg Forty Eight with classic construction
For the construction of the Forty Eight Custom Airbrush E-BassSandberg relies on classic woods and the bolt-on construction with 34" scale length (864 mm). The strikingly designed body here is made of alder, while the six-bolt neck is made of maple and carries a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. The flat "C" neck profile together with the pleasant Satin-Finish promises buttery smooth playing characteristics.
Fat sound with Sandberg pickups
Under the impressive metal caps in black pearl look the Forty Eight Bass hides two powerful Sandberg pickups, which come up with variable power sounds for rock and metal at the amplifier. The Sandberg power humbucker placed close to the bridge delivers with its series-connected coils a brute Output with focused midrange spectrum that asserts itself in the band sound with ease. The Sandberg split coil installed in middle position, on the other hand, convinces with its raw low-mid growl and the necessary thrust for driving rock grooves. An active 2-band tone control is also available for adjusting the bass sound.
Sandberg Hardware
Completing the Sandberg Forty Eight 4 Custom Airbrush of in-house SandbergHardware with uncompromising functionality. The solid-built Sandberg Bridge 4 features three-dimensionally adjustable string riders that not only guarantee exact intonation, but also allow string action and string spacing to be adjusted to personal preferences. On the matte black lacquered headstock, furthermore lightweight Sandberg Machine Heads ensure a long-lasting precise tuning of the rocking 4-string bass.
The Sandberg Forty Eight is a bit of an odd duck in that it is not the typical P or J type bass. And, as much as its looks harken to the T-Bird, the Sandberg pickups make the sound completely different. It is going to take me a bit to adjust to the different tonal variety. However, the playability is excellent and the quality of the parts and construction is obvious. I am thoroughly enjoying this bass.
The Music Store experience has been great. Price was fantastic and shipping was surprisingly quick.
