The Fender Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Child Strat Journeyman Relic Black is a tribute to one of the most ground-breaking pioneers of modern guitar music.
Based on Hendrix’s original Maple Cap Strat of the mid-sixties, the JHVC Strat presents the unique "upside-down" setup of the innovative left-hander with a reverse headstock and pick-ups voiced as if inverted; the unmistakable sound character of the original Hendrix Strat is bought to life via 3x hand-wound '69 Custom Shop single coils.
The iconic inverted headstock not only provides the distinctive je-ne-sais-quoi of the Hendrix aesthetic, but also provides a different string tension to that seen on a normal strat, making it feel slinky in the hand, with quick response in the lower registers, especially with bending and vibrato techniques – case in point; Hendrix is often thought of as a lead player, but his real genius was in his interesting and innovative use of rhythm; check out Voodoo Child and be astounded at all the things you can do with a basic E Major chord!
With left-hand versions of the '69 Custom Shop Single Coils specially wound for the Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Child Strat, the sound of the Voodoo Child Strat comes as close as possible to the original. Built into the usual positions of the Stratocaster, the reverse placement of the pole pieces produces a different response across all six strings with a different harmonic character and additional definition. This difference is particularly noticeable on the bridge pickup, whose reversed angle provides additional clarity for the low strings and more powerful midrange of the high treble strings.
The Journeyman Relic presents a guitar that appears authentically road-worn and played in, with wear in the traditional Hendrix positions on the maple fretboard and body.
