Orange Amps are expanding their own guitar amp range with the TH100 head, the 100 Watt strong big brother of the TH30.
The TH100 has exactly the same control functions and the same preamp section of its smaller siblings, but in the setting AB1 35 Watt is delivered through two power amp tubes (half performance) or 70 Watt through 4 power amp tubes. Switched into the AB2 mode, the amp reaches 50 Watt on 2 and 100 Watt on 4 tubes. Through the possibility of being able to switch to half power, the volume can be reduced without giving up any power amp distortion.
Just like the TH30, the TH100 offers, on two channels, the best of the Rocker and TH series. The clarity and brilliance of the classical vintage sounds on one channel and the stunning overdrive/distortion sound with British crunch on the other channel, making the TH100 a thorough bred amplifier.
This head features four EL34 tubes, four 12AX7 pre amp tubes and a 12AT7 for the low impedance FX loop. Through four internal bias controls, the power amp tubes can be matched with a technician. With respect to size and weight, the TH100 is comparable to the Rockerverb 100.
The TH100 combines the best of the Rocker and TH series on two channels. The clean channel provides the clarity and brilliance of classic vintage sounds, whilst the dirty channel has dazzling overdrive and distortion sounds of snappy British colour. A two-band sound control is provided in the clean channel for adaptation of the sound, whilst the dirty channel is equipped with an extremely effective Shape control.
A well-designed circuit allows the power of the Orange TH100H to be reduced in three stages. On the back, there is the possibility to use the "Output Tubes" instead of all four EL34 power amplifiers only two, which reduces the power from 100W to 70W. In addition, each of these power stages can be halved with the "Full/Half" switch, which uses 50Wand 30W. In this way, the Orange TH100H is ideally suited for use on large stages as well as in small clubs or auditoriums.
I bought this head a few months ago along with the 4 by 12 orange cab and im completly stunned!
I tried this head before in musicstore and also tried the cab. what really made a difference for me is that you can adjust your tone easy with just one knob. This amp made me find my own sound and i love it! I couldnt find a good sound that made me happy with my prev. tube amp, It took me a month to find out what i was looking for and where i could find it, and to be honest, Im in love with orange! really, if you need an amp that can do almost everything tone wise like a decent clean sound and a awesome dirty channel, both verry easy to adjust to your own taste then is orange your amp!
Sound wise this amp will stay with me till i die, just amazing
workmanship Awesomeness! really, this amp can handle everything, it is a working horse, and always ready to rock!
Price/performance: okey, its a bit expensive maybe but, really if you want a decent amp that sounds and feels amazing, does what you want and every twist of a knob is actually working? then this is just a a low price, I can tell you. My prev. amp broke 2 times in 3months, i had to let it fixed every now and then after a gig. this amp never broke down.
Handeling/operation: verry easy to use, just 1 shape knob for the dirty channel and a treble and bass for clean channel, thats really enough for me, oke somethimes i think it would become handy if you get a little more control when your adding just a little more spice or something else to your tone but still, that one knob on the dirty channel works perfect!
Features well, i gave it a 4 because like i said before, if you want a little bit more control then an extra tone knob will become handy but yeah.. thats your own thingy :) i has every thing in my opinion, every knob does hes job and works fine, fx send return is a good feature to!
Ill start off with the build quality, which is really really good. Its pretty heavy, features real quality components and is very sturdy. I dont see this thing falling apart pretty easily.
Second, this amplifier features two switches that can decrease wattage and switch between power tubes, offering a wider variety of tones which is pretty interesting. It also allows playing at a bedroom level. Handling this amp is very easy aswell, there are no EQ knobs and you wont need them. Three knobs is all it takes to dial your perfect tone, which is amazing.
And finally, the orange sound is absolutely amazing. Like I said before, it is VERY versatile and will always sound good, no matter what genre you play, this amp can do anything. I play heavy music in a drop-b tuning on this amp, combined with a booster and a v30 cabinet, and it absolutely rips on stage. It packes more than enough gain, the shape knob goes from classy and more bottom end to a more tight and treble-like sound. So you can dial your tone just the way you want too, I dont miss EQ knobs at all on this amp. It also handles my pedals (such as delay) perfectly, everything you add on this amplifier simply seems right.
The only thing you should think about is your choice of cabinet, which will have a great influence on the sound. My v30 cabinet has less bottom end compared to an Orange PPC cabinet, which is no problem because this amplifier already packes enough bottom end for me. So try getting a good combination that fits your style and preferences!
Bottom line: I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to everyone. The price is definatly worth it!
