Sennheiser HD 280 Pro Closed-Back Headphone - Black
Closed studio headphones
The Sennheiser HD 280 Pro Closed-Back Headphones is a significant step forward in Sennheiser’s on-going design manifesto. These headphones have been designed to supersede the requirements of a professional audio environment. A collapsible frame, swivelling ear-cups and robust construction are some of the improvements included in these phones, along with more familiar necessities such as high noise attenuation, linear sound reproduction, soft ear-pads for comfort during long exposures and a durable connecting cable. These are excellent monitoring and studio headphones.
The main features of the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro Closed-Back Headphones include:
For the price these are great headphones, build quality is solid and they are comfortable! They have a peak in the treble and a slight bump in the subs, probably to enhance listening experience, other than that they are quite flat, I use them with Sonarworks as a reference check.
I bought these purely for elimination of headphone spill when recording vocals. Most reviews rate these very highly. However - the sound is not inspiring, quite dull and not detailed. They certainly don't compare with my AKG and Audio Technica phones. The sound is quite middly and almost compressed. I've tried them with different interfaces (Universal Audio, Presonus etc). - no difference. They are also not particularly comfortable for long periods. Obviously there is a price trade off - the HD 280s are not 'high end' headphones. I was rather expecting a better experience - just shows don't believe all the 5 star reviews!!
